Samo iz malene Čajetine je u Prvom svetskom ratu učestvovalo 3.500 boraca, među kojima je bio i pukovnik Krsta Smiljanić iz Ljubiša, najvećim delom rata komadant Drinske divizije, kome su se Zlatiborci odužili podizanjem spomenika u parku pored Kraljevog trga na Zlatiboru.

Srbija i Republika Srpska od danas u formi praznika slave 15. septembar, dan kada je 1918. godine u Prvom svetskom ratu probijen Solunski front i kada je srpski vojnik nezaustavljivo krenuo da istera neprijatelja iz svoje otadžbine. Ovim praznikom slavi se i srpska zastava, koju upravo ti junaci odbrane Srbije nisu ni za živu glavu hteli da ostave neprijatelju.

“Sa ponosom se sećamo predaka iz naše slavne istorije i svim srcem se trudimo da budemo njihovi dostojni naslednici”, izjavio je predsednik opštine Čajetina Milan Stamatović, dodajući da je upravo jedinstvo svih srpskih rodoljube, ma gde se nalazili u matici i rasejanju, neophodan uslov za opstanak srpskog naroda i srpskog imena.

Sećajući se žrtve naših predaka, dodao je Stamatović, ne možemo a da se ne setimo i naredbe srpske Vrhovne komande uoči proboja Solunskog fronta: „Svi komadanti, komandiri i vojnici treba da budu nošeni idejom – od brzine prodiranja zavisi ceo uspeh ofanzive. Treba drsko prodirati – bez počinka do krajnjih granica mogućnosti ljudske i konjske snage. Sa nepokolebljivom voljom i nadom u Boga – junaci, napred u otadžbinu“. Na čelu 140.000 srpskih vojnika (među kojima je bilo oko 25.000 dobrovoljaca) bio je vojvoda Živojin Mišić, dok je komadant proboja Solunskog fronta bio francuski general Franše d Epere, čije reči da „srpskog vojnika nije mogla da prati francuska komora sa konjanicima“ i dan-danas odzvanjaju u našim ušima, posebno kada se sećamo tih naših predaka, koji su nam doneli slobodu u kojoj i danas uživamo.

Mladi naraštaji koji predstavljaju našu budućnost bi trebalo da se sećaju i reči tadašnjeg ministra spoljnih poslova SAD Robert Lesing koji je, oduševljen naletom srpskog vojnika na Solunskom frontu, rekao: „Kada se bude pisala istorija Prvog svetskog rata njen najslavniji odeljak nosiće naziv Srbija. Srpska vojska je učinila čuda od junaštva, a srpski narod pretrpeo je nečuvene muke i takvo požrtvovanje i hrabrost ne mogu proći nezapaženo – oni se moraju nagraditi.“, zaključio je Stamatović.
