Manastir Kumanica se nalazi između Prijepolja i Bijelog Polja, 13 kilometara od Brodareva. Nalazi se u selu Vrbnica u dolini reke Lim uz samu železničku prugu. Dugo vremena je bio razrušen i napušten. Obnovljen je i osvećen 12. novembra 2000. godine.
Prvo pisano pominjanje manastira vezuje se za 1514. godinu. U ruševinama su sačuvani delovi ploča za koje se pouzdano tvrdi da potiču iz razdoblja od kraja XIII do sredine XV veka, ali je prostor na severnoj strani manastira uništen pri gradnji železnice, pa je pouzdanije datovanje prvobitne crkve onemogućeno. Pretpostavlja se da je zlatno doba života manastira bilo u drugoj polovini XVI i tokom XVII veka. Pretpostavlja se takođe da je manastir urušen i zapušten u drugoj polovini XVIII veka.

U vreme letnjeg sabora, u okviru manastirske slave 26. jula, u njemu se okupi na desetine hiljada vernika, a veoma je cenjen i među vernicima ostalih veroispovesti.

Nije onda ni čudo da su manastir u divljim stenama prozvali „mali Ostrog”. Inače, po jednoj od verzija priče o nazivu i nastanku, srpski velmoža kog su Turci uhvatili uspeo je da ostavi bogatstvo kumovima koji su podigli manastir.
