Masters u Madridu, koji je trebalo da bude održan sredinom septembra, otkazan je zbog sve lošije situacije oko pandemije koronavirusa u prestonici Španije.

Taj turnir je trebalo da bude poslednja provera za najbolje tenisere sveta pred Rolan Garos, koji je za sada zakazan od 27. septembra do 11. oktobra. Organizatori najvećeg turnira na šljaci planiraju i prisustvo publike, do 60 odsto kapaciteta.

„Nemamo izbora osim da otkažemo turnir zbog kompleksne situacije koju stvara koronavirus u svakom pogledu“, stoji u saopštenju.

U Španiji je od početka pandemije zabeležemno više od 300.000 zaraženih, a oko 28.500 ljudi je umrlo.

Podaci Evropskog centra za prevenciju i kontrolu bolesti pokazuju da je sve veći broj zaraženih posebno u Madridu i okolini.

„Posle novog porasta u broju zaraženih, pre nekoliko dana su objavljene nove mere za suzbijanje koronavirusa, a one uključuju direktive da se broj okupljenih na jednom mestu smanji na 10 ljudi, kako u javnosti, tako i u zatvorenom prostoru, što je dodatno umanjilo isplativost turnira“, dodaje se u saopštenju.

Teniska sezona je prekinuta u martu, a u konkurenciji žena je nastavljena turnirom u Palermu ove nedelje, dok je prvi turnir u kalendaru ATP turnir Masters u Sinsinatiju, koji će biti igran u Njujorku, pred US Open, koji startuje 31. avgusta.
