Srpska pravoslavna crkva (SPC) i vernici danas slave praznik
koji proslavlja Svetu Trojicu, u spomen na silazak Duha Svetoga na apostole. Pošto se ovaj veliki događaj odigrao 50 dana posle
Vaskrsenja Hristovog, i praznik se uvek slavi 50. dana posle Vaskrsa, pa stoga
uvek pada u nedelju i zove se još i Pedesetnica. Čitava služba Pedesetnice, za koju je karakteristično to da
je vrlo svečana i uzvišena, predstavlja razradu svakodnevne liturgijske pesme u
čast Svete Trojice: „Videsmo Svetlost istinsku; primismo Duha Nebeskoga;
nađosmo veru istinitu, klanjajući se nerazdeljivoj Trojici, jer nas je Ona
spasla“. U službama ovoga dana mnogo puta se peva i molitva Duhu Svetome:
„Carju Nebesnij“. Na veliki praznik Sveta Trojica vernici tradicionalno
posećuju manastire i traže oprost grehova ili lek za bolesti. Dobro je, kako se veruje u narodu, iz tih manastira poneti
osveštanu vodicu jer u narednih godinu dana obezbeđuje harmoniju u domu. Ovaj
praznik naziva se i Duhovi, pošto predstavlja silazak Svetog duha na apostole. Narodna verovanja i običaji Pre Duhova, na groblju se održavaju takozvane otvorene
zadušnice. Veruje se da se u tom periodu „otvaraju“ grobovi i da se može
razgovarati sa mrtvima. Običaj je i da se na samoj humci poslužuje hrana
(panaija) za dušu umrlog. Na praznik silaska Svetog Duha na apostole, pod u hramovima
pokriva se travom, pored zidova se prislanjaju grane lipe ili nekog drugog
drveta, a ikone se kite cvećem. Ovaj običaj potiče još od prvih hrišćana, koji
su ga pak preuzeli od Jevreja. Oni su na praznik Pedesetnice kitili svoje
bogomolje i kuće grančicama, zelenilom, travom i cvećem. To ih je podsećalo na vreme kada su preko Mojsija dobili
deset Božjih zapovesti, kao i na vreme lutanja po pustinji, posle bekstva iz
Misira, jer su u pustinji živeli u kolibama od granja i lišća. Na Duhove u
hramu narod plete venčiće od trave koje posle nosi kući i ostavlja pored ikone
i kandila. Mnogi nose venčiće u torbama i tašnama jer veruju da će ih Bog
zaštititi od raznih nesreća koje mogu da ih snađu. Ovaj praznik slave katolici, pravoslavci i mnoge druge
hrišćanske crkve. Veruje se da u periodu pre i posle ovog praznika vladaju
moćne energije. Običaj je da se obilaze manastiri, što bi naročito trebalo da
čine osobe koje traže oprost grehova ili lek za bolest.
