Danas je Velika subota, drugi dan hrišćanske žalosti. Velika subota obeležava uspomenu na pogreb Isusa Hrista i njegov silazak u ad. Dan se provodi u molitvi i tišini.

U Jerusalimu, svake godine na Veliku subotu, pred Pravoslavni Vaskrs, održava se ceremonija starija od 12 vekova. U hramu Svetog Groba u Svetoj zemlji već vekovima jerusalimski patrijarh uznosi ugašeno kandilo koje se samo pali i taj oganj prenosi na sveće okupljenih vernika, a oni dalje svojim bližnjima i u svoje hramove.

Ove godine, zbog pandemije i zabrane okupljanja, ceremonija će biti limitirana na oko 10 pravoslavnih starešina. Na ovaj dan završavaju se poslednje pripreme pred najveći praznik. Sprema se i čisti kuća, priprema odeća.

U pojedinim delovima zemlje mesi se kolač – vaskršnjak – okićen bosiljkom, kao i kolačići. Jedina je subota u godini kada se post sastoji u suhojedenju, odnosno ne jede se kuvana hrana. Ko nije obojio jaja prethodna dva dana, može i danas.

Ne radi se u polju, niti ručni radovi.
