Srpska pravoslavna crkva i vernici danas slave Sabor Svetog Arhangela Gavrila i njegovo javljanje kroz istoriju, praznik koji je ustanovljen na Svetoj Gori u devetom veku.

Letnji Aranđelovdan, kako narod još zove ovaj dan, proslavlja se povodom javljanja arhangela Gavrila u keliji kod Koreje, gde je prstom na kamenu ispisao pesmu Bogorodici.

Ovaj arhangel saopštio je proroku Mojsiju kako je stvoren svet, što je on zapisao u knjizi Postanja, proroku Danilu tajne o budućim carstvima i dolasku Spasitelja, svetoj Ani da će roditi blagoslovenu devu Mariju, prvosvešteniku Zahariju da će mu se roditi sin Jovan Preteča.

Svetoj Devi u Nazaretu blagovestio je začeće i rađanje sina Božijeg.

Javio se i pravednom Josifu i pastirima kod Vitlejema, Isusu u Getsimanskom vrtu, ženama mironosicama.

Najveća i najradosnija vest u hrišćanstvu koju je javio Blagovesnik je vesto o vaskrsenju Hristovom.

Freska arhangela Gavrila u srednjevekovnom manastiru Mileševa poznata kao Beli anđeo jedna je od najlepših i najbolje očuvanih i proglašena je za sliku prošlog milenijuma.
