Na današnji dan 1199. godine u Hilandaru, umro je otac Svetog Save, Stefan Nemanja osnivač dinastije Nemanjić koja je vladala srpskim zemljama više od dva veka. Kada je predao vlast i zamonašio se, dobio je ime Simeon.
Stefan Nemanja bio je veliki vladalac srpskog naroda, ujedinitelj srpskih zemalja, tvorac nezavisne srpske države, branitelj Pravoslavlja, progonitelj jeresi.
Bio je jedan od najznačajnijih ličnosti svoga doba u ovom regionu.
Uspeo je da proširi tadašnju srpsku državu i aktivno se borio protiv bogumila. Osnivač je dinastije Nemanjića koja je vladala srpskim zemljama više od dva veka. Kad je utvrdio državu i pravoslavnu veru, zamonašio se u manastiru Studenica 1195. godine i dobio ime Simeon. Potom odlazi u manastir Vatoped, na Svetoj gori, kod svog sina, tada monaha Save.
Zajedno obnavljaju manastir Hilandar, koji su dobili od vizantijskog cara. Još postoji loza koju je zasadio Sveti Simeon.
Narod veruje da zrno ovog grožđa iz Hilandara uz post i molitve Svetom Simeonu pomaže nerotkinjama da dobiju potomstvo.
Simeon je u njemu poživeo samo sedam meseci. Sava je preneo njegove posmrtne ostatke 1208. godine u Rašku, da bi nad njima izmirio svoju stariju braću Stefana i Vukana koji su se borili za vlast. Mošti su mu pohranjene u Studenici, njegovoj zadužbini.
Gradio je još Sveti Simeon i Đurđeve stupove, manastir Svetog Nikole kod Kuršumljije i i crkvu Svete Bogorodice na ušću reke Kosanice.
Zbog čudotvornog tečenja mira iz njegovih zemnih ostataka, prozvan je Mirotočivim.
